Min., Dr. Constance Davenport (affectionately called Dr. Coni) is the wife of Bishop Dr. William Davenport, Senior Pastor of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church (CMBC) in Social Circle, GA, where they have served over 30 years. They have been married for over 40 years and together since high school, 1971. They are parents of four adult children and grandparents to twelve beautiful grandchildren.
Teaching Ministry
Dr. Coni is a licensed and ordained minister, having made her calling known in the ministry of teaching during the summer of 2003. She serves as the Christian Education Director at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Through this appointed position, she provides teacher training and curriculum development for Adult, Youth and Children’s Sunday School classes, and Bible Study courses. Dr. Coni also serves as a Relationship Counselor and Sunday School Teacher.
Music Ministry
Since the age of 10, Dr. Coni has maintained active membership in either a choir or praise/worship group. Her singing career covers a span of more than 40 years. Notably, she sang with the recording group, Interdenominational Mass Choir (IMC), under the leadership of Kelvin Broughton and John Croslan II, for the 25 years of its establishment. She also sang with the recording group Voices of Worship (VOW). With these groups, Constance has opened for Richard Smallwood, Dottie Peoples, the Williams Brothers, Paul Porter, Dorothy Norwood, Velma Watkins, Zebulon Ellis, and others. She sang background and/or lead vocals on seven musical CDs—three with IMC, two with VOW, one with Lois Sneed, and one with Blue Favors.
At the age of 21 years, Dr. Coni realized her gifting in song writing. She has written over 50 songs. Six have been published on two music CD projects, “Diversified Praise” by Voices of Worship (5) and “Beyond Our Borders” by the Interdenominational Mass Choir (1). She established the “Praise Team” and “Divine Praize” (originally named Teen Praize), and co-established “Young People of Praise” (YPP) and “Voices of Worship” (VOW) at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church.
Education
Dr. Coni’s education consists of a High School Diploma--East Atlanta High School (Atlanta, GA) and the following degrees: BS (Psychology/Biology)--Georgia State University; MA (Adult Education)--Central Michigan University; EdS (Specialist in Educational Administration)--Central Michigan University; DPC (Doctorate of Pastoral Counseling)--Andersonville Theological Seminary; and EdD (Doctorate of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessments)--Walden University.
Career
Dr. Coni, worked professionally as a middle grades, “gifted” science teacher for DeKalb County Schools. Now retired, she currently serves as the Christian Education Director at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Coni’s personal vision is to impact eternity by reaching the unsaved through teaching, counseling and training. Her motto is, “You are never too old to learn and it’s never too late to start!” One of Dr. Coni’s favorite scriptures is Philippians 4:13 (KJV), “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
